Rise and Sweep on Saturday

With the weather cooling, it's the perfect time of year to spruce up Waverly Main Street for the upcoming holiday shopping season!

Join us on Saturday, October 18 for Rise and Sweep cleanup. Volunteers will meet for refreshments at St. John's church (3009 Greenmount Avenue) at 7:30 a.m. for refreshments, followed by the street cleanup until noon. Relax after your hard work with a barbecue back at St. John's at 12 p.m.

Taste of Waverly Village a Success!

Sign Up Now for the Taste of Waverly Village!

GHCC and Waverly Main Street are seeking participants for the second annual Taste of Waverly Village!

The Taste of Waverly Village will gather restaurants and crafters on Saturday, October 11 at the site of the Waverly Farmers Market for tastings, live music, and shopping. It's a great day of fall fun for the entire family, and a wonderful way for restaurants and crafters to meet new customers.

Come to the Waverly Branch for a day of book-related merrymaking and storytelling for all ages. Snap up great deals on books at our book tables; get your rare books appraised for free by David Grey of Allen’s Bookshop (limited so register early); bid on antique, vintage, and other unique items at the Silent Auction; sample fresh-baked goodies and enjoy special programming for all ages throughout the day.


Children’s Programming
10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Children’s Reading Room
At 11 a.m, recent Newbery award-winning author Laura Amy Schlitz will read from her enchanting book Good Masters! Sweet Ladies! The author will be available to sign books immediately following the reading. Children will also enjoy crafts, face painting, balloons, animal visitors, and giveaways for those who come early.

Teen Programming
12 p.m. to 1:15 p.m.
Meeting Room
Teens interested in exploring journalism can participate in a dynamic program led by Baltimore Sun staffer John-John Williams. Thinking about a career in journalism? Want to hone your reporting skills? This program is for you. The program is free but space is limited so register in advance. Snack and beverage provided to participants.

1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Meeting Room
Join us for Conversations with the Artist Lee Freeman: Beyond Golden Fences. Freeman will use his experiences with the conceptualization and installation of Golden Fences as a starting off point in a broader discussion of art and public dialogue.

Book Appraisals
2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
Adult Reading Room
With over 25 years of experience in the book business, David Grey, owner of Allen’s Bookshop, will appraise your books (five-book maximum ) for free. Find out just how valuable those old books of Great-Aunt Mabel are. Bring on the books for the Waverly BookFest’s version of “Antiques Roadshow.” Pre-registration encouraged due to time constraints.

We Want Your Books
Well, someone wants your books and we’d love to play matchmaker. Here’s the catch: Books must be in good condition – with covers, no torn or missing pages, and not overly marked up. We will not accept textbooks. Books are being collected at the Waverly Branch in the marked bin in the lobby. And thanks! We promise your books will find great new homes and people to love them. Please do not place rare books or books of great value in the book bin. Instead, contact Ann Giroux at (410) 889-6484 to schedule your donation so that you can receive a donor acknowledgement letter. Don’t know exactly how much the books are worth? We can help!

We Want Your Stuff
We would love to have donations for our Silent Auction. This is not a White Elephant Sale. Please donate your antiques, collectibles, new in-box electronics, decorative items, art, bottles of fine wine, vacation package and restaurant gift certificates, or other items. Your contributions are tax-deductible and a donor acknowledgement letter will be provided. To donate items, please contact Ann Giroux at (410) 889-6484.
